23 Oct BASEMENT REMODEL
Here is one ADU creation – from concept to realization.
Turning a crawl space into a daylight basement
In one of our recent remodels, the homeowner had converted the unused 4- high crawl space into a daylight basement with a skip trowel ceiling, Tuscan walls, concrete counter tops and a new bathroom with a jacuzzi tub. Both the homeowner, and the team at Wieldy were very pleased with the outcome of the project.
We were able to turn an uneven foundation into a shelf that goes around the perimeter of the space, which really stands out. The countertops are made of concrete which turned out fantastically for this project.
The ceiling was a challenge, as it required us to go around the newly installed furnace system. We had to build around the difficult angles, as well as allowing for adequate headroom and allow for walking space. This was particularly difficult in the bathroom area. However, we were able to make the bathroom particularly special by using mood lighting. In the kitchen, we used bright can lights in addition to the mood lighting, to create a well-lit space for the homeowner.
In terms of plaster, usually we used colored plaster, however, on this occasion we used the special Miller paint that reflects sunlight. In turn, this made the daylight basement look a lot brighter. On the ceiling, we used the same paint but 1/2 diluted with white.
For this project, we have taken a crawl space and converted it into a fully functional, and fully kitted out daylight basement! The perfect remodel for any unused space.
