26 Jun STORY OF WINDOW RESTORATION
A challenging project is an interesting puzzle for our company.
On one of the projects, the window on the ground floor was filling up with water to the point where it started leaking into the house. Eventually, the window became so decayed that it practically fell out. The homeowners removed the window and covered the opening with plywood.
At this stage, they called us. We measured the humidity of the wall, but couldn’t determine the cause – the wall between the upper and lower windows had uniform moisture. We made a small incision, but it was still unclear – the wall was dry, but the window was wet. Then we removed the plaster between the windows. After that, it became clear what was happening.
It turned out that several “small construction oversights” had accumulated into a problem for the homeowners. To the right of the window, there was a small balcony, and water from the balcony was supposed to drain into a special drainpipe. However, the drainpipe was installed incorrectly, causing some of the water to flow into the wall. The walls were installed correctly – if water entered inside, they would let it through special drains downwards, where it would flow onto the ground. However, there was a window in the path of the water, which was installed incorrectly. Instead of diverting the water, the window was collecting it: the film that was supposed to protect the window from water was actually collecting it. This created a reservoir around the window. Naturally, over time, the window rotted and fell out.
Small mistakes by builders can lead to significant problems. For some time, homeowners had to live with plywood instead of windows. Our Wieldy Construction team is always ready to take on complex projects, and this time we successfully completed the task.
